Xiao Niurou 2025 – Zhengyan

55.00

Tea – Yancha Wulong
Harvest – Spring 2025
Origin – Xiao Niu Rou, Zhengyan

This Rougui comes from the Zhengyan protected area of Wuyishan. Due to the impervious nature and small size of this area, the tea produced here is not a large amount. Zhengyan tea, especially Zhengyan Rougui, is highly prized because this terroir can give tea Yan Yun, a name that can be translated as the “melody of the cliffs”.

The nickname Xiao Niurou, that can be translated as “small niurou” or more literally “small beef” is because the tea considered to have similar qualities to the super renowned Niulankeng Rougui, which is called in short “Niu Rou”. This tea grows in a place not far from Niulankeng, between there and Jinjiaoyi. Beceuse it is not from Niulankeng however, it can have a much “smaller” price.

Regardless of names, we just like this tea because it is a lovely Zhengyan Rougui.
From the first brew this tea is demanding attention and delivers dark roasted and herbaceous notes that hit deep with its “yanyun”. The tea character is rich with layers of subtle aromatic flavors and the cozy medium roast is balanced leaving a strong aromatic finish. Its the kind of tea that disappears fast because it is always a good idea to drink it but requires a slow and focused drinking session.

We recommend this tea to more experienced drinkers and as usual, always suggest saving the very first steep as last cup.
