Horse Pillow Rougui 2024 – Zhengyan

55.00

Tea – Yancha Wulong
Harvest – Spring 2024
Origin – Ma Zhen Feng, Zhengyan

This Rougui comes from the Zhengyan protected area of Wuyishan. Due to the impervious nature and small size of this area, the tea produced here is not a large amount. Zhengyan tea, especially Zhengyan Rougui, is highly prized because this terroir can give tea Yan Yun, a name that can be translated as the “melody of the cliffs”.

Some teas you can drink casually, some are rich and flavorful and need focused drinking to slowly absorb and unravel the complexity of the leaves. You cannot eat a whole meal in a bite but need to savor it slowly.
This is one of those satisfying teas, a savory blend of bright and complex flavors blending charcoal roast and the rich fragrance notes of Rougui and the Yanyun expression of the terroir.

Recommended for experienced drinkers.  We strongly suggest to save a cup from the very first infusion/rinse aside to drink as last at room temperature.

No label – Wuyuanjian Rougui 2024 – Zhengyan

50.00

Tea – Yancha Wulong
Harvest – Spring 2024
Origin – Wu Yuan Jian, Zhengyan

This tea is outside of our store catalogue. Being based in Wuyishan we have the chance to drink some really nice teas but they are often too expensive for being selected for our lineup.
Because of demand and offer, the market price of some tea is really high. With these samples we decided to offer a limited quantity of some tea from our private collection for those who really want to them and can afford to do so. I can’t say this tea is worth buying or drinking, this is a personal choice depending on many factors.

This Rougui was fully handmade by a tea maker who sadly just passed away and is from a small garden in Wu Yuan Jian, one of the top locations in the zhengyan area. Only 20 kg were produced in the so called “natural” farming style. The flavor profile is complex and rich with plenty of roasted and deep lingering flavor notes. In other words, good tea.

Price is for 14g of tea in 2 individual 7g tasting bags

Plum Bridge Laocong Shuixian 2023 – Zhengyan

60.00

Tea – Shuixian, Yancha Wulong
Harvest – Spring 2023
Origin – Mei Zi Qiao, Wuyishan, Zhengyan

The characteristic of Laocong Shuixian (old bush shuixian) is that is picked only from older trees and this gives it a silky smooth mouthfeel and a special flavor called “Congwei”, meaning the flavor of bushes. I think of the experience of drinking Laocong Shuixian as walking into an imaginary old bookstore, with a warm light filtering through the windows, old wood panels and a peaceful cozy energy.

As soon as I drink the first brew from this Plum Bridge it feels like the universe is slowing down for a moment which reminds me why I like Laocong. The flavor is not strongly fragrant or bright, it is more woody and understated and leaves a balanced sweetness in the aftertaste. The roast and processing is and the tea shine for those who appreciate its subtle qualities.

A tea to drink slowly and appreciate, not for every day, not for everyone.

Qidan 2024 – Dahongpao

24.50

Tea – Yancha Wulong
Harvest – Spring 2024
Origin – Xingcun, Wuyishan (Banyan)

The name Dahongpao is tied to legends and stories, printed on thousands of tea packages filled with any kind of Yancha blends of various grade and quality.
It is impossible to define clearly what these “Dahongpao” teas exactly should be. A few untouchable old bushes growing from a stone cliff and visited by thousands every year? An ideal blend of yanchas? A specific cultivar?
If we talk about a cultivar there’s more than one: the Qi Dan and Bei Dou are both said to descend from cuttings of those famous old bushes. This tea is made from one of those cultivars: a pure unblended Qidan that is well processed and can be appreciated for its character.

This 2024 Qidan has a rich, creamy and dark character with intense roasted notes and subtle aromatics that linger in the later steeps.

A comfortable and cosy tea for any occasion, easy to drink and satisfying. Recommended for those who enjoy a stronger roast on their yancha and want to try this cultivar.

Bairuixiang material from a remote and unknowns mountain. Good conditions, peace, quiet make good tea with complexity and clarity but without the famous origin price tag.

This Bairuixiang 2024 has plenty of personality and powerful flavours with aromatic complexity and a lingering aftertaste. The medium roast balances the rich character of the material.

An interesting tea to discover, recommended for a focused session.
