Horse Pillow Gaocong Shuixian 2025 – Zhengyan

Shuixian is one of the most popular cultivars in Yancha and for good reason. The leaves of Shuixian are slightly bigger than most yancha varieties and it has a soft and comfortable character combined with nice floral aromatics.
This Shuixian is from an excellent location in the Zhengyan area, made from Gaocong bushes, meaning “tall bush”. Gaocong is older than regular bushes and, although not as old as a Laocong (old bush), it adds to the tea character and mouthfeel a layer of smooth complexity.
This 2025 Horse Pillow Shuixian is a great choice for tea that has more complexity at a relatively low price. The classic shuixian character is present but the tea has added complexity from layers of darker sticky and woody notes due to the special environment and tree age. The roast profile is pretty balanced creating a background that lets the tea express itself and carry over into a long and tasty finish.
Excellent tea for a delicious cup in a more focused session.

Kitty Brick 2025 – Zhengyan Laocong Huangpian (8 pieces)

This tea is made from the so called huangpian leaves from the same material of our Zhengyan White Cloud Temple Laocong Shuixian from Bai Yun Si.
Huangpian are the larger leaves that are usually discarded from the finished tea and usually not for sale. Their flavor is less intense and their appearence is not pretty but we are glad we were able to source them as they can be very nice to drink. Because these are from such good material, the flavours while lighter are still very nice and they have a significantly cheaper price than the finished tea.
Compared to the normal tea, these huangpian also have a stronger roast, very prominent in the earlier steeps but the character of the shuixian is still present and its lovely aromatics develop in the cup as the brick slowly opens up as it steeps. The strong roast should settle over the years as the tea ages.
The leaves are pressed into a convenient brick shape, easy to store for aging and let the flavour develop but also perfect to carry around if you enjoy it as it is.

Old Bookstore Laocong Shuixian 2025

The characteristic of Laocong Shuixian (old bush shuixian) is that is picked only from older trees and this gives it a silky smooth mouthfeel and a special flavor called “Congwei”, meaning “bush flavor”. The flavor of laocong is not strongly fragrant or bright, its understated and elegant leaving a smooth sweetness in the aftertaste.
I think of the experience of drinking Laocong Shuixian as walking into an imaginary old bookstore, with a warm light filtering through the windows, old wood panels and a peaceful cozy energy.
This Laocong is from the area of Masu, in the higher part of the Wuyishan range, inside the Tongmuguan Unesco protected natural area. The tea has a rich and complex flavor, with the strong aromatics filling the cup with the characteristic congwei. The roast is balanced and not very strong providing just a backdrop for the rich flavors coming out of the leaves. Drinking laocong is always an experience that goes a bit beyond the simple delicious flavor of the tea, it is a state of mind that calms the senses and fills your soul with the woody and calm character of this tea.
An intense tea for more focused and slow sessions.

Horse Pillow Rougui 2025 – Zhengyan

This Rougui comes from the Zhengyan protected area of Wuyishan. Due to the impervious nature and small size of this area, the tea produced here is not a large amount. Zhengyan tea, especially Zhengyan Rougui, is highly prized because this terroir can give tea Yan Yun, a name that can be translated as the “melody of the cliffs”.
This Rougui is more on the complex side, different layers of flavor give it some depth that takes time to discover. Strong aromatics and bright notes showcase the cultivar character and the expression of the terroir with a mild charcoal roast in the background.
We strongly suggest to save a cup from the very first infusion/rinse aside to drink as last at room temperature.

Tieluohan is one of the most famous Yancha cultivars and is often listed among the Four Great Bushes (四大名丛) alongside Dahongpao, Shuijingui and Baijiguan.
Our 2025 Tieluohan has a classic Yancha profile, with deep roasted notes that make a smooth and cozy cup of tea. The cultivar character emerges from the roasted notes as the steeps go on blending delicate top aromatics with the dark and roasty foundations of the tea and lingering in the aftertaste.
A solid, cosy, roasted Yancha for any occasion.
