Bairuixiang material from a remote and unknowns mountain. Good conditions, peace and quiet make good tea with complexity and clarity but without the famous origin price tag.

This 2025 Bairuixiang is a delicious tea, rich with fruity notes and nice sweetness. The tea flavors are enhanced by the balanced roast remaining front and center, as with all teas with rich and intense flavor we recommend to enjoy it with multiple short steeps.
It’s a tea that reminds me of ripe summer fruits and will brighten any afternoon.

An interesting tea to discover.

Xiao Niurou 2025 – Zhengyan

55.00

Tea – Yancha Wulong
Harvest – Spring 2025
Origin – Xiao Niu Rou, Zhengyan

This Rougui comes from the Zhengyan protected area of Wuyishan. Due to the impervious nature and small size of this area, the tea produced here is not a large amount. Zhengyan tea, especially Zhengyan Rougui, is highly prized because this terroir can give tea Yan Yun, a name that can be translated as the “melody of the cliffs”.

The nickname Xiao Niurou, that can be translated as “small niurou” or more literally “small beef” is because the tea considered to have similar qualities to the super renowned Niulankeng Rougui, which is called in short “Niu Rou”. This tea grows in a place not far from Niulankeng, between there and Jinjiaoyi. Beceuse it is not from Niulankeng however, it can have a much “smaller” price.

Regardless of names, we just like this tea because it is a lovely Zhengyan Rougui.
From the first brew this tea is demanding attention and delivers dark roasted and herbaceous notes that hit deep with its “yanyun”. The tea character is rich with layers of subtle aromatic flavors and the cozy medium roast is balanced leaving a strong aromatic finish. Its the kind of tea that disappears fast because it is always a good idea to drink it but requires a slow and focused drinking session.

We recommend this tea to more experienced drinkers and as usual, always suggest saving the very first steep as last cup.

Qidan 2025 – Dahongpao

24.50

Tea – Yancha Wulong
Harvest – Spring 2025
Origin – Xingcun, Wuyishan

The name Dahongpao is tied to legends and stories, printed on thousands of tea packages filled with any kind of Yancha blends of various grade and quality.
It is impossible to define clearly what these “Dahongpao” teas exactly should be. A few untouchable old bushes growing from a stone cliff and visited by thousands every year? An ideal blend of yanchas? A specific cultivar?
If we talk about a cultivar there’s more than one: the Qi Dan and Bei Dou are both said to descend from cuttings of those famous old bushes. This tea is made from one of those cultivars: a pure unblended Qidan that is well processed and can be appreciated for its character.

This 2025 Qidan has a rich and creamy character with clean roasted notes and subtle aromatics that linger in the later steeps.

A comfortable and cosy tea for any occasion.

Not being from a famous name location the value is quite good for how it tastes.

White Cloud Temple Laocong Shuixian 2024 – Zhengyan

48.00

Tea – Shuixian, Yancha Wulong
Harvest – Spring 2024
Origin – Bai Yun Si, Wuyishan, Zhengyan

The characteristic of Laocong Shuixian (old bush shuixian) is that is picked only from older trees and this gives it a silky smooth mouthfeel and a special flavor called “Congwei”, meaning “bush flavor”. The flavor of laocong is not strongly fragrant or bright, its understated and elegant leaving a smooth sweetness in the aftertaste.

I think of the experience of drinking Laocong Shuixian as walking into an imaginary old bookstore, with a warm light filtering through the windows, old wood panels and a peaceful cozy energy.

Coming from the south part of the Zhengyan area, the laocong here grow along a trail that leads to Baiyunsi (White Cloud Temple), a Buddhist temple built on the cliffs. Originally managed by the Buddhist nun who organized villagers to rebuild the temple in 80s, it is now managed by her family. This area has typical Zhengyan features, with thin layer of pink soil from broken rocks, and lush local plants that become nutrients for the tea trees that get few hours of direct sunlight. Every two years, the weeds are cut and buried in the soil in late autumn to become compost.

The flavour is elegant and restrained. With two charcoal roasts, it is thick and smooth, expressing a clear congwei and a long lasting sweetness as more brews are made.
