Echoes Rougui 2024

38.00

Tea – Yancha Wulong
Harvest – Spring 2024
Origin – High elevation area, Wuyishan

Rougui is one of the most beloved Yancha cultivars combining depth of flavor and powerful aromatics that can change and reflect specific terroirs making each Rougui special. This Rougui is from a very good location of Wuyishan in the Tongmuguan area which means it grows at a higher altitude. Not being from a famous name location the value is quite good for how it tastes.

Our Echoes 2024 has an intense flavour with plenty of depth and complexity, hitting all the right spots from the first sip.
Well processed and roasted with an perfect blend of sweetness, dark tones and aromatics, with a lingering aftertaste that sings the delight of the soul and senses.

Da Chigan Hongcha 2024

Tea- Black Tea (Not Smoked)
Harvest – Spring 2024
Origin – Tongmuguan, Wuyishan

This black tea comes from Tongmuguan, a remote and pristine part of the Wuyi Mountains, protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Situated at a much higher altitude than other areas of Wuyi and surrounded by forests, Tongmuguan provides a special environment for tea cultivation.

This tea is grown in the yesheng, or “wild growing” style, referring not to truly wild plants, but to the natural style of cultivation. The tea trees are grown without the close pruning and organized rows typical of big farms. Instead, they are allowed to grow more freely, resulting in irregular shapes and more biodiversity.

While the area is traditionally known for smoked version (often called Lapsang Souchong in the west), this version is made from high-quality leaves dried without smoke. The result is a pure expression of the tea, showcasing the character of Xiaozhong with full clarity.

This tea is called a 大赤甘 (da chi gan) meaning it was picked after the leaves open. The flavor profile is very balanced, with a rich but delicate sweetness. Unlike many Chinese black teas which can be heavy, malty, or even cloying, this tea is lighter in color and fragrance, leaning instead toward woody notes with a cozy but also a clean and refreshing taste and smooth mouth feel.

I don’t drink black tea often but I have to say I really enjoy this one whenever I brew it.

Horse Pillow Gaocong Shuixian 2024 – Zhengyan

30.00

Tea – Shuixian, Yancha Wulong
Harvest – Spring 2024
Origin – Ma Zhen Feng , Zhengyan

Shuixian is one of the most popular cultivars in Yancha and for good reason. The leaves of Shuixian are slightly bigger than most yancha varieties and it has a soft and comfortable character combined with nice floral aromatics.

This Shuixian is from an excellent location in the Zhengyan area, made from Gaocong bushes, meaning “tall bush”. Gaocong is older than regular bushes and, although not as old as a Laocong (old bush), it adds to the tea character and mouthfeel a layer of smooth complexity.

Horse Pillow Shuixian 2024 is a tea with a creamy and gentle sweetness, subtle aromatic depth and a smooth mouthfeel that brings more complexity while quietly expressing the Shuixian character and fragrance. Not very strong roasted nor too fragrant, good processing and material.

Shengtai Shuixian 2023

19.00

Tea – Yancha Wulong
Harvest – Spring 2023
Origin – Xingcun, Wuyishan

Shuixian is one of the most popular cultivars in Yancha. The leaves of Shuixian are slightly bigger than most yancha varieties and it is considered to have a soft and comfortable character combined with nice aromatics.

Shengtai means something like biodiversity. This style of farming is a bit different from the usual. In 2021, the farmer took what was a previously normal tea garden and decided to grow tea avoiding any kind of pesticides and herbicides, just letting the tea garden grow in a more “wild” way. The only product used is a fertilizer derived from rape seeds.

This Shuixian is very nice to drink, with a sweet roasted aroma that starts from the dry leaves and keeps going in the cup. The mouth feel is smooth and light and the roasted notes blend well with the tea character with a mildly sweet finish. The flavor is very balanced without any off flavor making an elegant and tasty tea good for any occasion.
